HARRIS ASSOCIATES

IN 2013, Harris Associates L.P. engaged HOK to design their new offices on the 45th and 46th floor of 111 South Wacker, a class A office tower located in downtown Chicago.

The firm of 200 professionals required their new office to have a modern trading environment, multiple conferences rooms, a high-end finished reception area as well as an internal stair to connect the two floors.

The design for the new space comes from the idea of “connectivity”. The idea formed when Harris struggled to bring their two financial groups together – domestic and international.

As the first step, HOK used thoughtful space planning techniques that integrated the groups into collaboration and gathering areas. The design team carried the connection theme throughout the space, overlapping these gestures into the furniture, finishes and smallest details. The centerpiece installation of the concept is seen at internal stair feature that expresses the interconnections of the two floors by way of material and textural overlap.
